Imperfect
A guided parts work session for overcoming perfectionism
You know the part of you that will not let anything be good enough. The one that rewrites the email a sixth time, that cannot rest until everything is right, that treats a mistake like a verdict. This is not a character flaw. It is a part of you that took on a job a long time ago, and has been working without rest ever since. This guided parts work session helps you meet that part directly, find out what it is protecting, and finally give it permission to put the job down.

The perfectionist in you did not appear out of nowhere.
It formed in response to something: a moment when being imperfect led to shame, criticism, or the withdrawal of approval. It’s also possible that high responsibility in your childhood home, or a loss of control created it. Either way, a part of you took over. Its job was simple and absolute: never let that happen again. Control every outcome, and you will be safe. Get it right, and you will be loved.
That part has been doing its job for years, often at enormous cost. It is exhausting to run, and it is not even the part that needed protecting in the first place. Underneath the perfectionism is usually something more tender: a fear of failure, a fear of judgment, a need for approval that never quite landed, or someone safe around you to protect you and hold you. The perfectionist is the guard standing in front of that. To soften the perfectionism, you have to meet what it is guarding, not just the guard itself.
What this session does
This is a guided parts work session, body-based and trauma-informed, following the same approach I use with clients in my practice as a psychologist. You will be invited to speak directly as the perfectionist part: to give it a voice, and let it explain what it is afraid will happen if it stops. From there, you will dialogue with the other parts involved: a younger, more tender part carrying the original fear or shame, an inner critic, and the wiser part of you that can hold both with compassion. This brings a hidden internal dynamic into the open, so the tension it has been carrying can finally be put down.
The audio is 24 minutes, but the full practice unfolds over about an hour, including space to pause, feel, and write. This is not a session you rush through. It asks for unhurried time, and ideally a quiet space where you will not be interrupted.
Why parts work matters here
Perfectionism rarely responds to being told to relax, because it was never irrational to begin with. It formed as a real solution to a real threat, and trying harder against it only feeds the same control it is already exercising. What shifts it is being met directly: hearing what it has been protecting, naming the unmet need underneath, and finally offering that need something instead of armor. That is what parts work makes possible, by giving every part of this dynamic, the protector and what it protects, a place to be heard.Â
A note before you begin
If you recognized the relentless standard in yourself reading this, that recognition is enough. You do not need to already understand your perfectionism to begin. You only need to be willing to meet the part of you that has been working so hard, and ask it, gently, what it has really been trying to protect.
That is what Imperfect is for.
A guided audio session, available the moment you purchase. You can stream or download it, and return to it as many times as you like.
Find a quiet place where you won't be disturbed. Sit or lie down, press play, and follow the audio. Headphones aren't required, but they help you stay with it.
No. You don't need the right words, or a clear memory, or a story ready to tell. This works directly with the body, not with what you can already explain.
Yes. Most people return to it more than once, especially when the pattern it works with gets activated again. It's yours to keep.
No. It's a practical tool drawn from the same somatic approach used in clinical work, meant to use on your own or alongside therapy, not instead of it when ongoing support is needed.

One session. Repeatable. Available the moment you need it — which is often not when you planned it.
