Appetite

A guided somatic session for emotional eating

Created by Myrthe Glasbergen, MSc. — psychologist and founder of Beyond Psychology

Emotional eating is not the failure of willpower you were taught it was. It is a signal: a hunger reaching for something that food was never the right shape for, a need that went unmet, a life force that was never allowed to move. When that signal gets misread as greed and managed with control, the real hunger does not disappear. It turns inward, into shame and self-attack, or it keeps reaching and grows more insatiable the harder you try to discipline it away.

This 35-minute guided somatic session for emotional eating helps you sit with the urge instead of the food, and finally hear what it has been trying to tell you. The same work I do in sessions, available whenever you need it.

You likely learned early, and often, to hold your own hunger back, in every sense of the word.

Your needs, your desire, your anger, your wish to take up space, all judged as too much, so you learned to make them small. Food became the one appetite that was always allowed, private and reliable and asking nothing of anyone. Whether you eat to fill an emptiness or to dampen what feels like too much, the underlying pattern is the same: a life force that was never given a safe place to move.

The hunger you feel now, the kind that pulls you back when you already had enough, often has little to do with food, and everything to do with the needs that were never allowed to be felt or spoken at the time they first went underground.

What this session does

This is a full somatic session, body-based and trauma-informed, following the same arc I use with clients in my practice as a psychologist. In 35 minutes, you move into the exact moment the urge arrives, the one where you want to eat but already know you have had enough, without judgment and without trying to force it away. You sit with the hunger instead of the food, listening for what it is reaching for and what need it is pointing to underneath.

As you meet that need directly, your nervous system has room to settle, and the life force that was feeding the hunger becomes something you can actually feel, claim, and use. Every time you need it.

Why somatic work matters here

Emotional eating does not live in your thoughts about it. It lives in the hand that reaches before you have decided to, in the fullness that never quite satisfies, in the body that keeps asking for more. You can understand completely why you eat and still feel the pull rise with no idea what to do with it. What changes that is not more understanding, but a felt, body-level inquiry: actually meeting the hunger where it lives, instead of fighting it from a distance. That is what this session makes possible.

A note before you begin

If you recognized the hunger you have been managing instead of hearing, whether by restricting, controlling, or giving in and then turning on yourself for it, that recognition is enough. You do not need to have it under control before you begin, and you do not need to be afraid of what might surface underneath. You only need to be willing to let the real hunger be felt.

That is what Appetite is for.

GOOD TO KNOW

A guided audio session, available the moment you purchase. You can stream or download it, and return to it as many times as you like.

Find a quiet place where you won't be disturbed. Sit or lie down, press play, and follow the audio. Headphones aren't required, but they help you stay with it.

No. You don't need the right words, or a clear memory, or a story ready to tell. This works directly with the body, not with what you can already explain.

Yes. Most people return to it more than once, especially when the pattern it works with gets activated again. It's yours to keep.

No. It's a practical tool drawn from the same somatic approach used in clinical work, meant to use on your own or alongside therapy, not instead of it when ongoing support is needed.

Ready to begin?

One session. Repeatable. Available the moment you need it — which is often not when you planned it.
