Sabotage
A guided parts work session for self-sabotage
You were moving forward. And then, somehow, you weren’t. You pulled back at the last moment, started a fight you didn’t want to start, ate what you said you wouldn’t eat, walked away from something that mattered. Self-sabotage is not a character flaw. It is a protective part of you doing exactly what it was built to do: keep you safe from something that once felt more dangerous than the cost of staying stuck.
This 35-60-minute guided parts work session for self-sabotage helps you meet that part directly, understand what it has been protecting, and make room for the part of you that is ready to stop getting in your own way. The same work I do in sessions, available whenever you need it.

Self-sabotage shows up differently for everyone.Â
It might look like overeating when you are finally making progress. Walking away from a relationship that was actually good. Avoiding the work that would move your life forward. Picking a fight right when things get close. What these patterns share is not weakness or lack of discipline. They share a part of you that learned, somewhere along the way, that the thing you are moving toward is not safe to have.
That part did not form without reason. It formed in response to real experiences: moments when success led to more pressure than you could carry, when closeness led to pain, when being seen led to judgment, when getting it right meant the stakes got higher. Your system learned to protect you by pulling you back before you could be hurt again. And it has been doing that job ever since, often at enormous cost to the life you are trying to build.
What this session does
This is a guided parts work session, trauma-informed, following the same approach I use with clients in my practice as a psychologist. In 35-60 minutes, you make contact with the part of you that resists moving forward, and you let it speak. You explore what it is trying to prevent, which emotions or memories it is protecting, and why it developed in the first place. As those layers are understood and integrated, space opens for the empowered part of you that has been waiting on the other side of the resistance.
The audio is 34 minutes, but the full practice unfolds over about 35-60 minutes including space to pause, feel, and sit with what comes up.Â
Why somatic work matters here
Self-sabotage does not respond to willpower because the part creating it was never irrational to begin with. It formed as a real solution to a real threat, and pushing harder against it only confirms to that part that something dangerous is ahead. What shifts it is being met directly: hearing what it has been protecting, and finally offering the part underneath something it never received.
That is what parts work makes possible.Â
A note before you begin
You do not need to understand your self-sabotage before you begin. You only need to be willing to turn toward the part of you that keeps getting in your own way, with more curiosity than judgment.
That is what Sabotage is for.
When something once felt unsafe to express, you learned to develop a part that took over to protect you. That part is still active today, even when the original danger is long gone. Parts work means meeting that part directly, hearing what it has been protecting, and helping it finally put the job down.

Find a quiet place where you won't be disturbed, with about an hour of unhurried time. You'll be guided to speak as the perfectionist part, then dialogue with the other parts involved. Two chairs or a pen and paper can help, but aren't required.
No. You don't need the right words, or a clear memory, or a story ready to tell. This works directly with the body, not with what you can already explain.
Yes. Most people return to it more than once, especially when the pattern it works with gets activated again. It's yours to keep.
No. It's a practical tool drawn from the same approach used in clinical work, meant to use on your own or alongside therapy, not instead of it when ongoing support is needed.

One session. Repeatable. Available the moment you need it — which is often not when you planned it.
