Shadow

A guided mediation for shadow work

Created by Myrthe Glasbergen, MSc. — psychologist and founder of Beyond Psychology

You have parts of yourself that went underground. Not because they were bad, but because at some point, showing them felt too risky: too much anger, too much need, too much fear, too much of something the world around you could not hold. So those parts moved into the background, and from there they kept shaping your behavior in ways you recognize but cannot always explain. The self-sabotage. The reactions that seem larger than the situation. The patterns you keep returning to despite knowing better.

This 25-minute guided mediation for shadow work takes you into that background, safely and without force, to meet what lives there. The same work I do in sessions, available whenever you need it.

Your shadow is not your darkness.

It is the parts of you that were pushed into the dark. The anger that was not allowed. The need that was shamed. The power that felt dangerous to have. The parts that were too much, or not enough, or simply never safe to show. Over time, those parts did not disappear. They moved underground, and from there they kept influencing your choices, your reactions, and your sense of who you are, without you being able to see them clearly enough to do anything about them.

Shadow work is the practice of turning toward those parts instead of away from them: not to unleash them, but to meet them with enough light that they no longer have to operate from the background.

What this session does

This is a guided visualization, trauma-informed, following the same approach I use with clients in my practice as a psychologist. In 25 minutes, you are gently guided into the parts of yourself that live in the background: the suppressed emotions, the survival-driven behaviors, the beliefs that formed in response to moments when being fully yourself felt unsafe. You observe them, listen to what they carry, and meet them with compassion rather than judgment. As those parts are acknowledged and felt, they can begin to integrate rather than continue to run your life from the shadows.

Why shadow work matters here

Shadow parts do not respond to being analyzed. They formed in experience, not in thought, and they live in images, sensations, and felt memories that bypass the rational mind entirely. Visualization creates an inner space where those parts can be approached safely, seen clearly, and finally met without the judgment that sent them underground in the first place.

That is what this session makes possible.

A note before you begin

You do not need to know which parts are in your shadow before you begin. You only need to be willing to look in the direction of what has been operating from the background, and meet it with more curiosity than fear.

That is what Shadow is for.

GOOD TO KNOW

A guided audio session, available the moment you purchase. You can stream or download it, and return to it as many times as you like.

Find a quiet place where you won't be disturbed. Sit or lie down, press play, and follow the audio. Headphones aren't required, but they help you stay with it.

No. You don't need the right words, or a clear memory, or a story ready to tell. This works directly with the body, not with what you can already explain.

Yes. Most people return to it more than once, especially when the pattern it works with gets activated again. It's yours to keep.

No. It's a practical tool drawn from the same somatic approach used in clinical work, meant to use on your own or alongside therapy, not instead of it when ongoing support is needed.

Ready to begin?

One session. Repeatable. Available the moment you need it — which is often not when you planned it.
